We are deliberately precise about what a ScriptShield certificate is, so it can be relied on appropriately. It is evidence of the existence and integrity of a specific piece of content at a specific time — not a copyright registration, and not legal advice.
What a record establishes — and what it does not
What it establishes
- That a file or text with a given cryptographic fingerprint existed no later than the recorded time.
- That the content has not changed since (any edit changes the fingerprint).
- An independently auditable attestation of the time, issued by a publicly-trusted third party independent of ScriptShield.
- A documented authorship and AI-disclosure declaration by the registrant.
What it is not
- Not a copyright registration. In many jurisdictions copyright is automatic; formal registration (e.g. the U.S. Copyright Office) confers separate statutory benefits.
- Not proof of who first authored the content — only that this party held it at this time.
- Not legal advice. Counsel should assess admissibility for a given matter.
Independent verification
Verification does not require trusting ScriptShield. Every certificate is backed by cryptographic proof and an independently auditable timestamp, and is designed to support independent technical verification using standard industry tools. Every certificate also carries a public verification link that anyone can check without an account.

The Evidence Methodology Brief
A controlled-access technical paper describing the evidence model in the detail an independent evaluation requires: what is recorded, how records are sealed and timestamped, and the procedures for verifying them without relying on ScriptShield.
