I Built This Because the Industry Banks on Your Silence

A career spent watching creators lose credit for their own work. ScriptShield is the evidence the industry never wanted you to have.

FADE IN:A writer sits alone at a desk. The cursor blinks. The work is good — and it's about to leave her hands. Forever.
A snowy owl in flight — the wisdom that arrives when the idea arrives
The wisdom arrives when the idea arrives.

Early in my career, I illustrated a logo brief for a client who refused to pay — and then took the work and used it anyway. It was my first real attempt at getting paid for the hours of drawing, refining, and supporting someone else's vision. I brought a lawyer. The evidence was obvious. I got paid.

But I never realised how common this was. Over the years, I watched it happen again and again — clients who tried to steal the work, executives who treated your pitch deck as their starting point, producers who heard your concept and developed it under a different title.

I have presented slates of scripts in rooms full of executives, and I have seen concepts I pitched surface later under different titles. Anyone who has worked in this industry long enough has a version of that story. Almost none of us had the evidence to do anything about it.

It's not just a timing issue. It's partly the integrity of an industry that knows it won't be challenged. They bank on your silence — because they've always been able to.

People say you can't claim copyright over an idea. They're right — technically. But with ScriptShield backing the trail of communication, every share time-stamped, every access logged, every NDA tracked — the evidence is already on your side before you walk into the room.

That's what we do now.

Every creator. Every idea. Every time.

There is a second story I don't usually tell. It is quieter than the first, and it took me longer to understand.

For years I worked in roles where my title said one thing and my output said another. I was hired and paid like anyone else on the floor — but what I actually brought was creative: the campaigns, the words, the design thinking, the systems that quietly became company assets. When each role ended, all of that stayed behind. And I had no record that any of it had ever passed through my hands. I have since learned how ordinary that experience is — especially for creative women, whose work is so often absorbed into a business without a line of credit attached.

What I learned along the way is that ideas are at their most valuable, and most vulnerable, at exactly the moment their creator can least afford to protect them.

So I went looking for the least painful way to protect original work. I could not find one. Every road led to a lawyer's office at $450 an hour — a door most creative people cannot open. Copyright is automatic almost everywhere in the world, but proof is not. And proof was the one thing nobody was helping creators build.

ScriptShield arrived the way most ideas do — at three in the morning, as a way through a problem I hadn't chosen. A folder of evidence, built quietly as you go: every version fingerprinted, every date fixed, every share recorded. If a hard day ever comes, you walk in with your history already organised. If it never comes, you've spent a few minutes a week keeping your own story straight.

I'm not a lawyer, and ScriptShield doesn't decide anyone's legal rights — it records facts, carefully, so that whoever needs to weigh them one day can. It is the tool I needed and couldn't find. So I built it — for the creator I was then, and for every creator who is her now.

How It Works
INT. YOUR DESK — THE MOMENT THE IDEA ARRIVES
A title. An outline. A synopsis. A first draft. You've spent eight hours — maybe longer — circling this idea before it pounced into reality. You upload your creative file to ScriptShield. In seconds, it is cryptographically sealed with a unique digital fingerprint that belongs only to your work.
INT. SCRIPTSHIELD DASHBOARD — CONTINUOUS
That fingerprint is locked to a precise timestamp and sealed into a Certificate of Authorship — with QR verification, jurisdiction-specific legal references, and a tamper-evident audit trail. A creation imprint downloads from the dashboard, locked to the date. The date cannot be changed. The evidence begins building itself.
INT. PRODUCER'S OFFICE — THREE MONTHS LATER
Someone claims your idea as theirs. Your agent opens the ScriptShield dashboard. Every access is logged — who opened your work, when they signed your NDA, how many times they read page forty-two. The trail of communication is time-stamped and complete.
Your Lawyer
(smiling)
The evidence is already on our side.
